Outage Event Debrief
On 9 July 2026, a licensing system issue affecting cPanel prevented a small number of Ecenica hosting servers from successfully verifying their licence status. As a result, customers hosted on the affected servers experienced errors when accessing the Ecenica Dashboard and certain hosting services.
Following its investigation, cPanel confirmed the issue was caused by a newly introduced security update process designed to deploy security updates more frequently. The increased volume of licence validation requests generated by this process unexpectedly overloaded the cPanel licensing infrastructure, preventing affected servers from completing licence verification.
Once cPanel increased licensing capacity and restored normal operation, the affected servers were able to verify their licences successfully, and all Ecenica services returned to normal.
cPanel has advised that changes have been made to its licensing infrastructure to reduce the likelihood of this issue recurring. We will also review our own systems and procedures to identify opportunities to minimise the impact of similar third-party service disruptions in the future.
